MEDICAL FACE MASKS – DECLARATION OF EUROPEAN STANDARD 14683:2014
Medical face masks are primarily used to protect patients. The European standard specifies that face masks serve to protect the patient from contagious germs from the mouth and nose of the staff. It also serves the wearer at all times as protection from potentially contaminated liquids. The Casada respirator meets the requirements of the test criteria of EN 14683: 2014 for medical face masks. Accordingly, a distinction is made between two types of masks. On the one hand the bacterial filter performance and on the other hand the respiratory resistance. Each type also differentiates according to its splash resistance.

* Type I masks are not intended for medical personnel in the operating room. These are only intended for patients and people who want to avoid the risk of the spread of infection, especially during epidemics or pandemics.

EU STANDARD 149:2001 FILTERING HALF MASKS OR PROTECTION AGAINST PARTICLES
Breathing masks or FFP (filtering facepiece) masks are used to protect personnel from pathogenic aerosols. They close securely around the mouth and nose and guarantee a secure fit.

The European standard also includes other tests such as leakage, skin tolerance and breathing resistance, with the particle filtration rate playing the most important role. Furthermore, since 2001, all masks have had to meet the requirements for both solid fine dust (S) and liquid aerosols (SL).
